Let Your Pride Flag Fly.

Let Your Pride Flag Fly.

June 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of annual LGBTQ+ Pride traditions. The first Pride march in New York City was held on June 28, 1970, on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The uprising occurred after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a bar located in New York City’s Greenwich Village that served as a haven for the city’s gay, lesbian and transgender community. Police raids on gay bars were common, but on that particular night, members of the city’s LGBT community decided to fight back—sparking an uprising that would launch a new era of justice and revolution.

However, it wasn’t until 1977 when Harvey Milk challenged Gilbert Baker, a veteran who taught himself to sew, to come up with a symbol of pride for the gay community.

His response? The original Pride flag. Inspired by Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow,” these colors flew at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978. But did you know that each colour had a meaning behind it?

We would like to pay homage to that original Pride flag and share with you what each of the colours represents and feature a cannabis product at The Pot Shack that we believe reflects that true meaning.

Hot pink =  Sex

The colour of Hot Pink at the top of the flag represents sex. We thought a great match for this colour is our Dosist Arouse Vape pens. Dosist pens are dose controlled, giving out an equal 2.25mg each time you take a hit. This allows you to take just as much as you need without going overboard.

Red = Life

The red colour represents life. When we think of life, our minds immediately go to a bud strain by Cove called Revive. This strain is an energizing sativa dominant hybrid which allows you to live life to the fullest and give your soul a bit of a revival.

Orange = Healing

The colour of orange in the flag represents healing. This can be both inner and outer healing. When we think of healing, we think of CBD and the first thing that comes to mind for us is our CBD gel caps from Tweed. These gel caps are perfect for anyone who is looking for the benefit of CBD without the smoke.

Yellow = Sunlight

The yellow stripe represents sunlight and the brand Solei has the perfect strain called Renew. This sun-grown strain is eco friendly and flowers with bright orange hairs. This powerful indica is perfect for enjoying the sunset with friends.

Green = Nature

When we think of the meaning of the green colour, nature, we think of the garden of eden. This led us to the Forbidden Fruit strain by Qwest. This strain is an indica with motivating effects. Perfect for going on a walk through nature and enjoying all the gifts that mother nature has to offer to us mere mortals.

Turquoise = Magic/Art

The colour of turquoise represents magic and art. The consensus around The Pot Shack is that our Thunderface Prerolls are the ultimate strain for creating magical art. This strain is one of our very own Craft Buds. It is an indica with exciting and uplifting effects. Perfect for getting the creative juices flowing.

Indigo = Serenity

The cool hues of indigo represent serenity. There are quite a few strains that can bring serenity but we think that the BC Blue Dream from Canna Farms is the ultimate in serenity. This bud is a sativa that is perfect for opening up the mind.

Violet = Spirit

The final colour of the flag is Violet for the spirit. It’s hard to try to find a way to define someone’s spirit. So we decided to focus on the colour. Double Purple Pie from Tenzo is the ultimate match for violet. Its purple hues will grab your focus and it’s indica dominant traits will allow your spirit to rest and take some time off.

At The Pot Shack, we embrace all colours of the rainbow and welcome people from every corner of this cosmic sphere we all call home. Our mission is and always will be to provide a wholesome, inclusive, and indiscriminate place to find quality Cannabis products.
